What Our Association is All About

Copyright Prudential plc
The birth of an idea of an Insurance Bowling Association began as far back as 1938 running along the lines of the Banks BA – but its Inaugural Meeting was held on the 4th October, 1950 at the Prudential’s Offices in London.
The Constitution and Rules were approved and the present badge was adopted, with the hope of Scotland, Ireland and Wales being involved. Many dinners were held in the City of London and the Association grew.
Matches winter and summer were being played across London, including those against the Banks, Stock Exchange, City Livery and City of London BC and Scotland.
The Insurance World decentralised from Central London and became fragmented across the country - and with the growth of the game, offered bowls on everyone’s doorstep. Our match venues widened accordingly.
To this present day, worldwide the game of bowls has changed dramatically but still we have many members who are or have been connected to the insurance world – even the women!! Of course, our Rules now allow in anyone not involved in insurance and wishing to join our Association - whom we welcome most warmly. He or she only has to be introduced by an existing member.
Because all of our members live in various Counties of the South East of England our fixtures are also very widespread and varied. We do not have our own home venue and rely on the hospitality of Clubs offering us annual matches. We are never short of fixtures and gaining members all the time.
